Per Diem Substitute Teachers
Greenwood Lake UFSD is looking for energetic and motivated substitute teachers to work with students at all levels, K-8 for the 2021-2022 school year. We seek candidates with education experience, but we welcome informal experience also. Are being accepted on an on-going basis.
Per diem rate of pay based upon the following:
- Non-Certified $125.00 per diem
- Certified $145.00 per diem
JOB DESCRIPTION: Substitute Teacher
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: A Substitute Teacher, or Sub, teachers and supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting and implementing lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students’ permanent teacher of their success.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Assistant Principal (if appropriate or applicable), Director of Curriculum and Instruction (if appropriate or applicable), Director of Pupil Personnel Services (if appropriate or applicable), regular classroom teacher.
SUPERVISES: Classroom support staff as may be necessary
JOB GOAL: In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular Teacher is absent, the Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class. Guide students toward gaining knowledge and skills, pursuant to the District’s, NYS and Federal established learning objectives, as established by the lesson plans provided in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher.
PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.

Take accurate attendance.

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest and abilities of students.

Interpret and implement lesson plans provided in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established curriculum goals.

Establish and communicate clear objectives and expectations to the students for all lessons.

Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Strive by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations.

Assess the accomplishments of students, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with the regularly assigned teacher, building administrators and/or parents, as appropriate.

Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by district policy and administrative regulation.

Adhere to all Board Policies and Regulations.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Align classroom practices and student behavioral expectations with the District code of conduct and with established administrative policies. Develop rules of classroom behavior, which are enforced in a fair and just manner.

Maintain valid certification as required by NYS Department of Education and Commissioner’s Regulations, aligned with the substitute assignment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary at will employee, salary, workday/year and benefits as established by the Board
EVALUATION: At least annually by Principal or other district supervisor.
CERTIFICATION/CLASSIFICATION/QUALIFICATION: Preferred NYS Teacher Certification as required by NYS Commissioner of Education Regulations
LOCATIONS WHERE WORK MAY BE PERFORMED: On-site or remotely as determined by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Examples: Able to lift 25lbs, able to assist and safely supervise students, able to perform essential functions as described above.
